Rich and Lemony Meringue Pie

1 package (4 serving size) Jell-O brand Lemon Pudding & Pie Filling
2/3 cup sugar
2 1/4 cup water
3 egg yokes
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1 baked 9-inch pie shell
2 tablespoons butter or oleo
3 egg whites
6 tablespoons sugar

Combine pie filling mix, 2/3 cup sugar, 1/4 cup water in saucepan.  Blend in egg yolks and remaining water.  Cook and stir over medium heat until mixture comes to a bubbling boil.  Remove from heat, blend in lemon juice and butter.  Cool five minutes, stirring twice.  Pour into pie shell.  Beat egg whites until foaming.  Gradually beat in 6 tablespoons sugar and continue beating until mixture forms stiff shiny peaks, spread over pie filling.  Bake at 425-degrees, five to ten minutes or until meringue is delicately brown.  Cool before cutting.
