Apple Bread

A vintage typed recipe card for Apple Bread; make this Apple Bread with sugar, shortening, eggs, vanilla, flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, apples, and chopped nuts. Place the batter in a 9x5x3 pan and top with sugar and cinnamon and bake for 50 to 50 minutes.
Apple Bread

Ingredients

1 cup sugar
1/2 cup shortening
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 cups chopped pared apples (about 4 medium)
1/2 cup chopped nuts

1 tablespoon sugar
1/4 or 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Method

Heat oven to 350-degrees.  Grease and flour loaf pan 9x5x3 inches.  

Mix 1 cup sugar, the shortening, eggs, and vanilla.  Stir in flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until smooth.  Stir in apples and nuts.  Spread in pan.  Mix 1 tablespoon sugar and the cinnamon; sprinkle over batter.  

Bake until wooden pick inserted in center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes.  Immediately remove from pan; cool bread completely before slicing.  Store tightly covered. 

1 loaf.
