Boston Fudge Cake

Boston Fudge Cake, a vintage handwritten recipe card.

Ingredients

2 cups sifted Gold Medal flour
1 teaspoon soda
3/4 teaspoon salt

2 cups brown sugar
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk
1 teaspoon vanilla

2/3 to 3/4 cup unbeaten eggs, 3 medium eggs
2 squares melted chocolate
 

Method

Sift together flour, soda, and salt. Add brown sugar, shortening, buttermilk, and vanilla beat 2 minutes vigorously. Add 2/3 to 3/4 cup unbeaten eggs (3 medium eggs) and 2 squares of melted chocolate. Beat 2 more minutes.

Bake in layers fro 30 to 35 minutes at 350-degrees.

 

Chocolate Frosting

Place bowl in ice water. Beat together until consistency to spread.

1 1/3 cup sifted powdered sugar
1/3 teaspoon salt
1 egg
4 tablespoons milk
4 tablespoons shortening
2 squares melted chocolate
1 teaspoon vanilla
