2 cups sifted enriched flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
5 tablespoons shortening
1 cup buttermilk

Oven 450-degrees

Melted fat or salad oil

Method

Sift flour, baking powder, salt, and baking soda; cut-in shortening until mixture resembles coarse crumbs. Add buttermilk all at once, and stir until dough follows fork around bowl. Turn out and knead for 1/2 a minute. Roll 3/8-inch thick; brush with melted fat or salad oil, fold once and cut double biscuits. Bake on an ungreased cooking sheet in a very hot oven (450-degrees) for 12 to 15 minutes.
