Butterscotch Slices

Ingredients

2 cups sifted all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup soft butter
1 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts

Method

Sift together these four: 2 cups sifted all-purpose flour, 1/2 teaspoon baking soda, 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.  

Mix together until creamy: 3/4 cup soft butter, 1 cup dark brown sugar, packed, and 1 egg.  Add flour mixture to butter mixture. 

Add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans or walnuts.  

Mix well.  Roll in waxed paper.  Chill in refrigerator.  Slice 1/8-inch thick on ungreased sheet.  Bake 8-10 minutes at 375-degrees. 

Make 4-5 dozen.
