Cocktail Torte

Cocktail Torte, a vintage handwritten recipe card


1 1/2 cups flour
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon soda
Pinch of salt
1 egg
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 medium can fruit cocktail

1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup nuts


Sift together 1 1/2 cups flour, 1 cup of sugar, 1 teaspoon soda, and a pinch of salt.  Beat one egg, add 1 teaspoon vanilla, 1 medium can of fruit cocktail; beat with flour mixture. 

Put 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/2 cup nuts over top. 

Bake 35 to 40 minutes at 350-degrees.  

Recipe for an 8-inch or 9-inch pan, double for a 9x13 pan and add 20 minutes bake time.
