3 quarts cold water
3/4 cup borax

Dissolve the lye in the cold water. Use a wooden spoon. Add the borax and when dissolved, slowly add melted fat. Any fat will do if clean. Stir slowly and constantly for 10 to 15 minutes. Then stir off an on for next 24 to 36 hours. It will be white and granular and easy to handle for all household uses.

"A farm woman we visited recently gave us her recipe for granulated soap. She has demonstrated the process before women's clubs and says it is not only easy to make but good soap. She uses it exclusively for household use."
