Magic Cookie Bars

Magic Cookie Bars

Here are two versions of the Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk Magic Cookie Bars recipe.  The first recipe is from 1970.  This recipe includes Kellogg’s Corn Flakes, sugar, margarine or butter, Diamond walnuts, semi-sweet chocolate morsels, flaked coconut, and Borden Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk.

The second recipe does not contain a date, but the other recipes in the Jorgensen Collection are dated from the late 1970s to the early 1980s.  I estimate that the recipe was published in the mid- 1980’s.  The recipe is close to 1970, but the Kellogg’s Corn Flakes and sugar are replaced with Graham cracker crumbs.

Also on the site is an advertisement from a 1940s publication for Eagle Brand Magic Cookies. These “Five Way Cookies” are made by combining one can Eagle Brand Sweetened Condensed Milk and 1/2 cup peanut butter, then adding one of the five possible ingredients – two cups raisins, two cups corn flakes, three cups coconut, two cups bran flakes, or on cup nut meats, chopped. These three ingredient cookies were dropped by the spoonful onto a buttered baking sheet and baked for fifteen minutes in a moderate oven (375 degrees).  This recipe makes about 30 cookies.
