Peanut Brittle

2 cups sugar
12 ounces shelled peanuts
1/2 teaspoon soda
1 cup corn syrup
1 cup water
1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine sugar and water.  Cook slowly stirring until sugar dissolves.  Cook to soft ball, add peanuts and salt.  Cook to hard crack stage stirring constantly remove from heat add butter and soda stir slightly and pour into well-greased pans.  Cool partially by lifting around edges with knife.  When firm, turn Peanut Brittle slab and when cool break into pieces.
