1/2 cup Spry or shortening
2 oz chocolate
3/4 cup sifted flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 eggs, well beaten
1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup nuts, coarsely cut


Melt shortening and chocolate together over hot water.  Cool.  

Sift flour with baking powder and salt.  Beat eggs until light, add sugar then chocolate mixture and blend.  Add flour, vanilla, and nuts and mix well.  

Pour batter into 8×8 inch pan.  Bake at 350-degrees for 35 minutes.  Maxes 16.
