1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup sugar
3 eggs
1 cup flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
Pinch of salt

Pitted canned or fresh cherries


Beat egg yolks until lemon-colored. 

Mix butter, sugar, and egg yolks until fluffy.  Sift flour, baking powder, and salt; add to butter mixture.

Beat egg whites until stiff and field in slowly. Pour into a greased pan 12×12 or 10×10 inches. Use pitted canned or fresh cherries and sprinkle them over the top of the batter; the cherries will sink into the batter, the cherries should be well drained. 

Bake 15 minutes at 450-degrees.
