Cake

Ingredients

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
2/3 cup milk
2 cups flour
3 teaspoons baking powder
Pinch of salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon lemon

Method

Cream butter, add sugar gradually, beat egg yolks add to butter and sugar add flour, baking powder, and milk alternately, beat hard; add flavoring then fold in beaten egg whites. Bake in 2 loaves in moderate oven twenty to thirty minutes. 

 

Fluffy Cake Icing

Ingredients

1 1/2 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup water
2 egg whites
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/2 teaspoon almond extract

Method

Boil sugar and water without stirring until syrup spins a hair when dropped from spoon.  Pour syrup slowly in stiffly beaten egg whites beating constantly until stiff enough to spread.  Add flavorings and mix.
