Microwave Version

Microwaves can turn out the Party Mix, too… in a much shorter time, with this slightly different recipe:

Ingredients

2 cups Corn Chex cereal
2 cups Rice Chex cereal
2 cups Wheat Chex cereal
2 cups Bran Chex cereal
1 cup salted mixed nuts or broken pretzel sticks
1/2 cup butter or margarine
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
1/4 teaspoon onion or garlic powder

Method

Place cereals and nuts or pretzels in a large mixing bowl.

Microwave butter until melted. Stir in remaining ingredients until thoroughly mixed. Pour over cereals stirring until all pieces are coated. Pour into a 2-quart shallow baking dish. Microwave on HIGH* 6 minutes or until crisp, stirring carefully but thoroughly every 2 minutes. Spread on absorbent paper to cool.

Makes about 9 cups.

* 650 watts. Adjust cooking time if Full Power on your oven is less [or more] than 650 watts.

One Response

  1. I’ve been making this Party Mix recipe with soy sauce and garlic powder for 40 years and have never seen it published anywhere before now. Think I originally got it from a magazine. My family won’t eat any other kind of party mix – make this every year during the holidays and throughout the year.
