Chocolate Nut Caramel Bars

Chocolate Nut Caramel Bars

Ingredients

12 ounces milk chocolate chips (real chocolate)
2 tablespoons shortening

30 caramels
3 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 tablespoons water

1 cups of nuts – pecans or walnuts

Method

Cook in the microwave 12 ounces milk chocolate chips and 2 tablespoons shortening about 2 minutes on power level 7, just until melted. Stir as needed.

Cover glass pie pan with tin foil. Pour 1/2 mixture of chocolate into the pan and refrigerate for 15 minutes.

In another bowl, cook in the microwave 1 minute at a time on level 3 (defrost), 30 caramels, 3 tablespoons butter or margarine, and 2 tablespoons water.  Add 1 cup of nuts (pecans or walnuts) to caramel mixture; stir.  Pour caramel-nut mixture over hardened chocolate. Place in the refrigerator again for 15 minutes.

Top with other 1/2 of the chocolate mixture.

Refrigerate for 1 hour. Cut into bars.
