Ingredients

2 egg yolks
1 cup sugar
4 tablespoons cold water
1 cup flour
1 1/2 level teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 egg whites

1 cup milk, divided
3/4 square chocolate
1 tablespoons butter
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla

Method

Beat 2 egg yolks, add 1 cup sugar slowly and 4 tablespoons cold water.  Sift 1 cup flour with 1 1/2 level teaspoons baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and alternately 2 beaten egg whites.  Spread and bake 15 minutes. 

For filling, scald 3/4 cup milk with 3/4 square chocolate, thickened with 1/4 cup milk (cold).  Add 1 tablespoon butter, 1/2 cup sugar, 1 egg and 1/4 teaspoon salt, 1/2 teaspoon vanilla.  Cook until thick.  Turn out on a damp cloth, spread with filling and roll, serve with whipped cream.
