Date Nut Bread


4 cups sugar
4 tablespoons shortening
6 cups flour
4 eggs
4 teaspoons soda
1 1/2 pounds pitted dates
1 1/2 pounds nut meats
4 cups boiling water


Dissolve soda in boiling water, add dates and nut meats, stir until thick. 

Add sugar, eggs, and shortening crammed; add the sifted flour. 

Bake in 4 loaf pans, approximately 1 1/2 hours in a 200-degree oven.
