Devil's Food Cake - Verdin

Ingredients

1/2 cup shortening
1 cup brown sugar
4 egg yolks
1 cup molasses
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 1/2 cups boiling water
1 1/2 teaspoons soda
3 1/2 cups flour

Egg whites
Raisins
Nuts
Sugar

Method

1/2 cup shortening, 1 cup brown sugar, 4 eggs (yolks), 1 cup molasses, 1 teaspoon cloves, 1 teaspoon cinnamon, 1 1/2 cups boiling water with 1 1/2 teaspoons soda, 3 1/2 cups flour. Bake in layers and fill with chopped raisins, nuts, and whites of eggs with 1 cup sugar.
