Fig Nut Cake

Fig Nut Cake

2 cups flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 1/2 cup sugar
1 cup cooking oil
3 eggs
1 cup buttermilk
1 cup fig preserves, chopped
2 cups chopped pecans
1 tablespoon vanilla

Sift all dry ingredients together three times.  Mix the last 6 ingredients well and add the flour mixture.  Blend well and put in a greased tube pan.  Bake one hour and twenty minutes at 325-degrees.  

Glaze

1 cup sugar
1 stick butter
1 tablespoon Karo
1/2 cup buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon soda

Boil five to seven minutes and spoon over hot cake.
