1 pound butter
1 pound sugar
1 pound flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 cup molasses
1 cup milk
1/2 pound blanched almonds
1/2 pound figs
1/2 pound dates
1/2 pound shelled pecans
1 1/2 pound raisins, chopped
1 pound currants
1/4 pound citron
1/4 pound orange peel
1 cup sherry
3 sticks chocolate, grated
1 cup brandy
1 tablespoons cinnamon
1 teaspoon cloves
10 large eggs, or 11 small ones


Beat sugar and yolks together, cream butter, add sugar and yolks, molasses, milk, flour (part of it) then fruits dusted with flour, last beaten whites. I dough is thin add a little more flour. Bake slowly, when done pour brandy over cake. Makes 3 cakes. Divided to make less.
