Gingerbread - Verdin


1 cup butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup milk
2 cups molasses
1 tablespoon ginger
1 tablespoon cinnamon
3 eggs
4 cups flour, divided
1 teaspoon soda
Warm water


Stir to a cream 1 cup of butter and 1/2 cup of brown sugar, 1 cup milk, add 2 cups molasses, 1 tablespoon ginger, 1 tablespoon cinnamon, beat all together, add 3 eggs beaten separately, add 2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon dissolved in a little warm water and lastly 2 more cups of flour.

Bake in a moderate oven. Sour milk makes a lighter cake.
