Ingredients
2 cups enriched flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 teaspoons salt
2 cups shortening
1 slightly beaten egg
1/2 cup milk
1 pound ground beef
1/4 cup minced onion
1 tablespoon fat
1 teaspoon salt
1/8 teaspoons pepper
1 tablespoon prepared mustard
1/4 cup chili sauce
Method
Sift together dry ingredients, cut in shortening; add egg and milk. Mix just until dough follows fork around bowl. Roll into two-inch squares. Brown ground beef and onion in hot fat, add remaining ingredients. Place a dough square in an 8x8x2 inch pan. Top with hot meat mixture, then remaining dough.
Bake in a hot oven (425-degrees) or 25 minutes. Cut in squares, 6 to 9 servings, serve with parsley sauce.
Make a white sauce: 3 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons flour, 3/4 teaspoons salt, 1/8 teaspoon pepper, 1/2 cup milk, add 2 tablespoons minced parsley and 1 1/2 teaspoon celery salt, 1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce.
