A vintage typed recipe for Cream Cookies


3/4 cup butter or shortening
2 cups sugar
1 cup heavy sour cream
3 eggs
1 whole nutmeg, grated or 1 teaspoonful
1 teaspoon soda
3 cups flour, or more
1/2 cup coconut


Work butter to a cream and add sugar, beat in sour cream and then eggs; sift flour with soda and nutmeg and beat into the mixture and fold in coconut. Bake a trial cookie, if cookie spreads too much add sifted flour two or three tablespoons [at a time], try again. Drop on a cookie sheet, bake until browned in a rather quick oven [375 to 400-degrees]. The cookies should run together as they are very rich.
