Wash thoroughly in cold water 14 medium cucumbers.  

Cover with boiling water (fresh) every morning for 3 mornings.  The fourth day, cut into chunks and cover with pickling solutions: 1-quart vinegar, 1 tablespoons salt, 1/2 small package of pickling spices (in a muslin bag), and 4 cups sugar.  

On the fifth, sixth, and seventh day, pour off syrup and bring to boil, adding a cup of sugar each day. 

On the eighth day, drop cucumbers into boiling syrup and heat through but not boil.  Put into hot jars and seal.  Green food coloring may be added to the syrup when it is first made.
