Nut Squares

Ingredients

2 1/2 cups sifted flour
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
4 eggs, beaten together
2 cups brown sugar
1 cup broken nut kernels
2 cups pitted dates

Method

Mix and sift together 3 times flour, soda, baking powder, cinnamon, all-spice, and cloves. In a bowl, beat the eggs, and sugar and beat fifteen minutes. Beat sifted dry ingredients into sugar and eggs when mixed add shredded dates and nuts. Spread as thin as possible in a greased and floured pan. Bake in a moderate oven until the sheet springs back at the touch of a finger. Remove from oven and cut into squares. Later lift from pan.
