Plum Pudding

Ingredients

3 cups soft, coarse bread crumbs
1 cup warm milk
1/2 cup melted butter or margarine
1 cup sweet orange marmalade
1 cup sifted all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
1 cup mixed, diced candied fruits and peels 

Method

Grease a 1-quart mold. Place bread crumbs in a large mixing bowl. Add milk, butter, and marmalade and blend well. Mix and sift flour and next 5 ingredients. Stir into crumb mixture. Add fruits and peels; stir to mix well. Turn into the mold and cover tightly. Pour boiling water, about 2 inches deep, in a steamer or large saucepan. Place mold on a rack in the steamer. Cover tightly and steam for 3 hours.

Serve with Hard Sauce Snowmen. 

Makes 8 servings.

 

 

HARD SAUCE SNOWMEN

Beat 2/3 cup butter or margarine until creamy. Blend in 3 cups sifted confectioners’ sugar. Chill. Shape into 1.5-inch balls for bodies, 3/4-inch balls for heads, and 1/2-inch balls for hands and feet. Assemble as shown. Use cloves and bits of candied cherries for eyes and mouth, cinnamon candied for buttons, candied cherry halves for hats.
