Ingredients

2 cups lukewarm water
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 teaspoon salt
2 packages dry yeast
1 egg
1/4 cup shortening
6.5 to 7 cups Gold Medal flour

Method

Mix together 2 cups lukewarm water, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1 1/2 teaspoon salt.

Stir in 2 packages of dry yeast until dissolved.

Add 1 egg, 1/4 cup shortening.

Mix in with a spoon or hand, 6.5 to 7 cups of Gold Medal flour, adding in 2 additions, {with an additional} amount necessary to make dough easy to handle.

Round up dough, place in a greased bowl, rub surface with soft shortening, cover tightly with waxed paper, then with a damp cloth. Place in the refrigerator, dampen cloth as it dries and when the dough rises, punch it down. When ready to cook, let rise for 1.5 to 2 hours.

Bake in a hot oven, 400-degrees for 12 to 16 minutes.
