1 can cubed beets
1/2 cup mild vinegar
1/2 small onion, sliced
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon gelatine
6 whole cloves


Soak gelatine in 1/2 cup cold beet juice.  Heat 1/2 cup beet juice with vinegar, onion, cloves, sugar, and salt.  Strain over the soaked gelatine.  Add beets and mold in individual molds or ina shallow pan.  

Serve on shredded lettuce with mayonnaise.
