Skillet Applesauce Brown Betty

Ingredients

1/4 cup butter
4 cups small, stale cinnamon-raisin bread cubes
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 15-ounce jar applesauce
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
Dash salt

Sauce:
2 tablespoons soft butter
1/2 teaspoons grated orange rind
1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar

Method

Melt 1/4 cup butter in a skillet, add 4 cups small, stale cinnamon-raisin bread cubes. Cook slowly, stirring until lightly browned; add 1/2 cup brown sugar (packed), 1 15-ounce jar applesauce, 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon, and a dash of salt. Heat, stirring lightly. Serve warm with a sauce made to follow: cream together 2 tablespoons soft butter, 1/2 teaspoon grated orange rind, and 1/2 cup confectioners’ sugar.
