6 tablespoons olive oil
2 medium garlic cloves, minced
1 medium onion, chopped 
2 28-ounce cans concentrated, crushed tomatoes (Puree)
2 6-ounce cans of tomato paste
2 cups water
8 fresh basil leaves or 4 teaspoons dried basil
1/2 teaspoon (scant) black pepper
1 teaspoon salt


Heat olive oil in a six-quart saucepan over medium heat. Brown garlic, onion, and saute until transparent. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, blended with water, basil, pepper, and salt. Simmer 30 minutes over low heat; stir often.
