Sift together into a large bowl

2 1/2 cups cake flour
3 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/3 cup sugar

Then add

2/3 cup Snowdrift {shortening}
3/4 cup milk

Beat 2 minutes.  Then Add.

2 egg whites, unbeaten
1/4 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla

Beat 1 Minute, then bake.  

 

Creamy Icing

2 tablespoons Snowdrift {shortenting}
2 tablespoons soft butter
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 package confectioner’s sugar {1 pound}
2 tablespoons warm cream

Cream Snowdrift & butter together.  Add salt, vanilla, & 1 cup sugar.  Stir in warm cream add remaining sugar.  Beat good.  Spread on top and sides of cakes.  

Lemon Creamy Icing

Substitute 1 tablespoon lemon juice and 1/4 teaspoon grated lemon rind for vanilla. 

Raisin Creamy Icing 

Prepare Creamy Icing.  Stir in 1/3 cup raisins.
