A vintage handwritten recipe for Virginia Rolls. Make these rolls with yeast, sugar, lukewarm water, scalded milk, melted shortening, sugar, salt, eggs, and flour.

- 2 packages of dry yeast or two cakes of yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup lukewarm water
- 2 cups milk scalded
- 2/3 cup melted shortening
- 3/4 cup sugar
- 4 teaspoons salt
- 2 beaten eggs
- 10 to 11 cups flour
Soften yeast and dissolve sugar in water – add milk.
Cool to lukewarm, add shortening, sugar, and salt. {?} egg, beat well and add flour to make a soft dough.
Let stand ten minutes – kneed down and put in a greased bowl and set in the refrigerator.
Take out 2 hours before baking and make rolls.
Bake.
