Print Recipe
- 1 cup dark molasses
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 eggs well beaten
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 teaspoons ginger
- 1 teaspoon salt
- Additional flour to make a soft dough
Heat molasses and sugar together but do not boil, stir in shortening, when the mixture is cool, add eggs.
Mix soda, salt, cinnamon, and ginger with one cup of flour and sift into the mixture, bet well.
Sift in additional flour to make a dough that can be rolled out. (Too much makes cookies dry and tough).
Roll dough rather thin and cut out cookies with a floured cutter, place on a greased baking sheet.
Bake in a hot oven, watching closely as cookies burn easily.
