German Sweet and Sour Beans

A vintage recipe card for German Sweet Sour Beans. Make this side dish with bacon, minced onion, flour, bean liquid, water, vinegar, sugar, salt, pepper, and green beans.

Ingredients

  • 2 strips bacon
  • 1 cup minced onion
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 1/2 cup bean liquid
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 package frozen beans or 1 can 1 pound green beans, drained

Method

  • Brown bacon until crisp.
  • Remove bacon.
  • Saute onion in bacon fat, until yellow.
  • Stir in flour, add liquid and seasonings; bring to a boil.
  • Stir in beans.
  • Heat through.
  • Sprinkle with crisp bacon bits, serve.
