2 onions, chopped
4 tomatoes, chopped or 1 cup canned tomatoes
7 cups water
10 okra, sliced
2 bay leaves
3 sprigs parsley
1 1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoon thyme
1/4 teaspoon dried ground chili peppers
4 tablespoon butter
1 pound fresh or canned lump crab meat


Combine the onions, tomatoes, water, okra, bay leaves, parsley, salt, thyme, and chili peppers in a saucepan. Cover and cook over medium heat for 30 minutes, stirring occasionally. Melt the butter in a frying pan. Add the crab meat and saute lightly until delicately brown, stirring frequently. Add to the tomato mixture. Cover and cook over low heat for 30 minutes. Correct seasonings. Serve with boiled rice.
