Ingredients

1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 egg
1/2 cup milk
3 1/2 cups flour
2 level teaspoons cream of tartar
1 level teaspoon soda
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon lemon

Filling:
1 cup chopped raisins
1 cup chopped dates
1 large apple ground fine
1/2 cup sugar
1 teaspoon flour
1/2 cup water
1 teaspoon butter

Method

Cream butter and sugar, add egg, and mix thoroughly. Sift flour and cream of tartar and add to creamed mixture, alternating with milk. Add flavors. Roll out lightly floured board. Cut in rounds. Put cookies on a lightly greased cooky sheet. Place a teaspoon of filling on each, then place another cooky on top, press edges together. 

Filling:
Place all ingredients in a saucepan. Boil until it thickens, cool. 

Bake 15 minutes at 375-degrees. 

Makes about 3 dozen cookies.
