Rib-Ticklin' Barbecue Sauce

A clipped vintage recipe for a Rib-Tickling Barbecue Sauce from Karo Syrup; make this barbecue sauce with Karo light or dark corn syrup, ketchup, finely chopped onion, cider vinegar, mustard, and Worchestershire sauce. Make a Spicy Barbecue Sauce by adding chili powder and minced garlic or an Oriental Barbecue Sauce by omitting the Worchestershire sauce and adding soy sauce and ground ginger.
A clipped vintage recipe from Karo Syrup for a Rib-Ticklin' Barbecue Sauce

Ingredients

1/2 cup Karo Light or Dark Corn Syrup
1/2 cup ketchup
1/2 cup finely chopped onion
1/4 cup cider vinegar
1/4 cup prepared mustard
1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce

Method

In a saucepan, stir together all ingredients. Stirring frequently, bring to a boil; reduce heat and boil gently for 15 minutes to thicken. Brush on meats, turning frequently, during the last 20 minutes of cooking. Makes 2 cups. 

 

Spicy Barbecue Sauce - add 1 tablespoon chili powder and 1 clove of minced garlic.

Oriental Barbecue Sauce - Omit Worchestershire sauce. Add 1/4 cup soy sauce and 1 teaspoon ground ginger.
