Dark Christmas Cake

Dark Christmas Cake


1 pound butter
2 cups sugar (1 white and 1 brown)
1/2 cup molasses
1 orange rind, juice, and pulp
1 teaspoon lemon extract or 1 lemon
12 eggs
1 cup milk or brandy
3 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon soda
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon cloves
1 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 pound mixed fruit
1 pound walnuts
2 pounds dates
1 pound raisins
1/2 pound currants
1 pound candied cherries


Mix in order given. Bake in a slow oven {300-degrees} for 2 hours if one pan is used. Flour fruits before mixing them in the cake.
