Rich Butter Cream Frosting

This classic frosting is made with butter, egg yolk, confectioners’ sugar, milk, and vanilla. It’s rich, creamy, and perfect for frosting cakes, cupcakes, and cookies.

This recipe card also has a note for a Lemon Butter Cream Frosting – omit the vanilla and add two tablespoons grated lemon rind and 3 tablespoons of lemon juice for the milk. For an Orange Butter Cream Frosting, omit the vanilla and add two tablespoons grated orange rind and 3 tablespoons of orange juice for the milk.

  • 1/2 cup oleo (1 stick)
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 1 pkg confectioners' sugar
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla


  • Beat butter and egg yolk until soft.
  • Beat in powdered sugar with milk and vanilla.

Lemon or Orange -
